I wouldn't doubt there may have been underlying mental health or physical health problems that may have been factors in her decision to take her own life. There is the factor here that the idea of one losing their house can be so seen by one as such a failing of themselves, of making a bad decisions that it can trigger depression and even taking one's own life. I bet this won't be the only one to do this or worse due to losing their house.

I don't get it. Back when the first big wave of layoffs hit Douglas a rivet basher who was getting riffed walked into Building 2 which was the only one with a restroom accessible without going through security. He went into the bathroom, pulled out a revolver and blew his brains out.

As it happened, it didn't change a thing for anyone.

The worst part is she thought that they could pay for the house with the insurance money. I think a lot of them will not pay in the event of suicide. They could end up in worse shape financially by having to pay for her 'final arrangements'.

Generally speaking...I don't know Mass. law---they have a full disclaimer for suicide if it's committed in the first 24 months of the policy. In that case, they would refund the policy holder's premiums to their estate. Past the disclaimer period, the beneficiary would receive the policy amount.

Varies by state/underwriter/company.

If they actually pay. I know of a few families that have "forgotten" the bill is due. It is especially annoying when people have a "go big or go home" mentality with their arrangements. Why buy a 6000 dollar casket when a 1500 casket will do? I've yet to understand that of families.

It's possible. I heard about this yesterday on the radio. The DJ made the point that he pretty much gave his wife the money every week for bills and she handled the finances. He also mentioned that in the article it said that she was intercepting and destroying notices and bills before the husband could see them.
